And alas, the wait has been long, but the results for Round 2 of the Bread Pudding Stake Out are in. I must admit this round was ridiculously hard seeing as almost all of the contenders were first prize worthy, but after some serious deliberation I think we have narrowed down the winners.
4. Coming in last, but certainly not least, we have EVOO‘s Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding with warm Buttermilk Caramel. Not so say that it isn’t delicious, which it is, but unfortunately not the best. The dish was slightly overwhelming from the richness of the bread pudding itself to the overly indulgent caramel sauce I can’t say it was my favorite.
3. In third, we have Zaftig’s, the amazingly delicious Jewish Deli located in Coolidge Corner (which just so happens to serve breakfast all day every day DING DING DING!!) Amongst a bevy of delicious homemade desserts, Zaftig serves up a nom-tastic Challah Bread Pudding, made with Raisins and topped with Warm Vanilla Sauce. This dessert truly is great, with the perfect balance of fluffy sweetness. It pains me to put it in third, but that’s not to say I wouldn’t order it again in a second.
2. Next we have our first runner up which goes to Pops in the South End, for their White Chocolate and Cherry Bread Pudding. A new take on the dessert, and one I hadn’t tried before, it was executed perfectly!
1. And first place goes to (drumroll please…) Eastern Standard! with their Butterscotch Bread Pudding. Where do I even begin? The soft cake, the crunchy caramel topping, and the fact that everything tastes better “a la mode”… Ahhhh SO GOOD!
I have to say, although this was the toughest round to judge, Union’s Vermont Maple Bread Pudding still reigns supreme as Best Bread Pudding in Boston. We’ll just have to see what happens in Round 3…
