The Essential New York Times Cookbook Pot Luck

Jacki and I were thrilled to be able to attend the Essential New York Times Cookbook Launch Party / Pot Luck with Amanda Hesser, the author of the cookbook and a legendary food writer for the New York Times. The event was at the Formaggio Kitchen Annex, a new warehouse space for classes and events. All attendees were encouraged to cook a dish from the cookbook or a recipe from The New York Times to bring for the pot luck! I decided to make the Polpette Alla Romana and Jacki chose the vegetable paella.

The first table was all appetizers and snacks:

I really had to exercise some self-control at the appetizer table to make sure I would have room for the rest of the food. My favorites apps were the Carrot Salad with Lemon and Herbs and the Cucumber Goat Cheese Dip.

Now for some of the main courses:

My plate was literally overflowing with food from the main courses. My favorites were the Leek and Shitake Bread Pudding, Eggplant Involtini, Lasagna and Tian of Pumpkin.

Then we ate dessert:

OMG Dessert. Overwhelming, yet heavenly. This dessert buffet rocked. My favorite was the chocolate chip cookie, it was one of the best I’ve ever had!

We also drank some wine generously provided by Red White Boston, and poured by the fabulous Jo-Ann Ross from J Ross Wine.

Our favorite wine was the La Rovere from the Piedmont Region of Italy (starting to love Piedmont wines BTW).

We also had fun chatting with Annabelle from Belle’s 20 Bites, Justin from Justin Can Cook, and Kathy from Boston Sports Woman. It was also great to finally meet some our our favorite boston food bloggers, Megan from Delicious Dishings, Meghan from Travel, Wine and Dine, and Alicia from The Clean Plate Club.

Oh yea, and we got to meet Amanda Hesser! It was refreshing to find that Amanda was so down to earth and easy to talk to. She was having a genuinely great time discussing her book and meeting everyone.


Overall huge success. It was such a neat event and we had a great time! Potlucks need to happen WAY more often.
