Food Porn Friday | OMG Red Velvet at Flour Bakery

Today we have a very special edition of Food Porn Friday, just in time for Valentines and one that may even send you into a little dirty-thought overload.

This past Tuesday I made my way to the Flour Bakery in Forte Point for a fundraiser for Lovin’ Spoonfulls, a non-profit food rescue that recovers food from grocery stores and restaurants that would otherwise be thrown away and distributes it to crisis centers and soup kitchens throughout Massachusetts. The event itself, which was called OMG Red Velvet, was the brain child of nom nom genius Christine Liu and Signpost’s Elizabeth, who helped organize the entire event with a little help from some seriously awesome eateries (think Sportello, Hungry Mother, Garden at the Cellar, The Rattlesnake and more.)

What we were told about the event was that 10 well-known sweetmakers would be coming up with their own concoctions inspired by the southern staple known as red velvet cake, what we weren’t told was that the event was essentially the foodie equivalent of a pool party at the Playboy mansion. The small space at Flour was jam packed with tasty delights displayed ever so beautifully at every turn, and the room was well adorned with Valentines Day inspired decorations. Impossible to keep my hands off, I’ll admit I returned to a couple tables for seconds.

The photo’s I took while there create the perfect spread for our Valentines Day edition of Food Porn Friday. If the following pictorial isn’t enough to get you all sorts of hot and bothered, then alas, I fear there is no hope for you… Enjoy!

Red Velvet Cupcakes from Sweet

Red Velvet Munchkins from SuSu Bakery

Red Velvet Chambord, Jalapeno Sugar Spoonful-o-Love from Poe’s Kitchen

Red Velvet Fried Chicken from Will Gilson

Red Velvet Macaroons by Sportello

Red Velvet and Chocolate Macaroons from Hungry Mother

Also, special thanks to How About We and Signpost for sponsoring the event and providing the cute notebooks, which I snagged several of. Happy Friday everyone! Have a great weekend, stay warm and keep those bellies full of OmNomNoms.

Ive heard of red velvet fried chicken before, but the important thing to ask is, is it actually good or is the idea of it better than the actual taste? Please answer this question for me!!! If so, I might do some red velvet onion rings next week, the only problem is that I hate food coloring…

dan, to answer your question, those little balls of red velvet fried chicken were effin phenomenal. one of my favorites of the night, and a perfect change of pace given all the sugar. they were much better than I expected and I am officially harboring somewhat of an obsession for Will Gilson. I think red velvet onion rings sound great! keep me posted on the results 🙂

Wow, great pictures. I was also curious about the chicken! Sounds great – what made it ‘red velvet’. what was it coated with?
